The groups were organized to allow for the greatest possible homogeneity, as this will facilitate communication between members of this group. It may be also very suitable for people with eating disorders, but in this case will form an independent group, which included only people with this disorder. Another field of application of this therapy is mourning the loss of a loved one, for any reason (death, breakup, etc...) The psychologist shall supervise and direct the sessions, where each patient stating the problems, progress and/or setbacks and submit to the opinion of others while you opine about the problems and situation of others. This interaction between patients, causes each of them to live problems of the other, terminating to knowing the origin and circumstances of their own problems and the consequences of their harmful habits or disorder, comprising the social sphere. |
Another added value in group therapy is that the cost for the patient is much smaller than the individual therapies and allow, with ease, making this therapy as support, sometimes for quite long periods, avoiding thus the potential relapse inherent in a short therapy.
